Hugging Face Launches Open Computer Agent, a Free Operator-Like Agentic AI Tool
Hugging Face launches Open Computer Agent, a cloud-based agentic AI that operates virtual computers. Open-source AI is entering the mainstream.

This cloud-based agent can autonomously execute complex commands in a Linux virtual machine, signaling a new chapter in open-source AI competition.
The Agentic AI Revolution by Hugging Face
Hugging Face has officially launched Open Computer Agent, a cloud-based agentic AI tool capable of performing user tasks within a Linux virtual machine. With a simple prompt like “find Hugging Face’s headquarters in Paris,” the system opens Firefox, searches the location, and presents the result—acting like a virtual assistant operating a computer.
Strong Performance, Despite Some Limitations
Although promising, the tool isn’t without its flaws. CAPTCHA challenges remain unsolved, and users often face wait times ranging from a few seconds to several minutes due to cloud traffic. Still, for basic tasks like browsing or document access, the agent performs reliably.
The Agentic AI Market Is Set to Boom
According to Markets and Markets, the agentic AI market is projected to grow from USD 7.84 billion in 2025 to USD 52.62 billion by 2030. Meanwhile, a KPMG survey reveals that 65% of global companies are experimenting with AI agents to automate workflows and improve operational efficiency.
Hugging Face’s Mission: Open and Accessible
Instead of building the most powerful agent, Hugging Face aims to prove that open-source AI is now capable, affordable, and cloud-ready. Aymeric Roucher from the agents team added that future updates will support visual coordinate interaction, enabling more complex screen-based actions.
The Future of AI Has Begun
Open Computer Agent is more than an experiment—it’s a clear signal that the future of AI doesn’t belong exclusively to tech giants. Hugging Face is showing that openness and efficiency can thrive together in the agentic revolution.
